The UNESCO listed site – Imperial Citadel where the Nguyen Dynasty ruled between 1802 and 1945. Enter through the towering main gate and you will appreciate the magnificent architecture and gardens while your guide explains about the events and the intrigue of the former royal court. Despite being bombed heavily, there are some incredibly well preserved sections still intact and others which are being lovingly restored.
Take a cyclo and it will take you to a pier where you will embark on a half-hour boat trip on the picturesque Perfume River to visit Thien Mu pagoda, Hue’s best-preserved religious monument. Standing on the riverbank with its seven-storey tower, the pagoda is a sight to behold.
Have time for lunch before continue to the elaborate Khai Dinh Royal Tomb from where the Nguyen Dynasty ruled between 1802 and 1945. Its architecture and atmosphere showcase elements of eastern art and western designs.
Continue driving on to Emperor Minh Mang’s tomb which was constructed between 1840 and 1843. The tombs was built decades before its occupant’s death the tomb was used as a palace retreat before the Emperors final resting place. Observe the majesty and symmetry of this large complex with 40 buildings set in the stunning natural surroundings.
Take time to stroll around Dong Ba Market with the guide. The market is another of the must see sites in Hue, the stalls are teeming with colour and a great place to catch a glimpse of everyday life.
